Devils Win Shootout With Misericordia, 3-2

DALLAS, PA - The College at Florham Devils knocked off Misericordia, 3-2 (2OT-Shootout), in Freedom Conference action on Saturday afternoon.  The Devils scored four times in the shootout compared to once for the Cougars.

With the win, the Devils improved to 5-9 (1-1 Freedom) while the Cougars dropped to 6-8 (1-2 Freedom).

FDU jumped out to a fast start as junior defender Jessica Lewis (Freehold, NJ/Freehold) scored off a feed from junior midfielder Ellen Siracuse (Kingston, PA/Wyoming Valley West) just 2:46 into the contest.  Misericordia came back to score the next two goals, both coming with less than five minutes to go in the first half, to take a 2-1 advantage into intermission.  The lone goal of the second half came at the 50:29 mark when senior forward Alex DeVito (Wayside, NJ/Ocean Twp.) found the back of the cage.  The game stayed tied for the remainder of the second half and both overtimes forcing a shootout.  Lewis, sophomore forward Lauren Guenther (Wall, NJ/St. Rose), freshman midfielder Kelsey Kistle (Sandyston, NJ/Kittatinny) and senior defender Stephanie Cruz (Neshanic Station, NJ/Somerville) scored the four shootout goals enabling the Devils to pick up their first conference win.

Freshman goalkeeper Meghan O'Neil (Highlands, NJ/Henry Hudson) played all of regulation and the two overtimes, making seven saves.  Freshman goalkeeper Kayleigh White (South Plainfield, NJ/South Plainfield) came on in the shootout and allowed only one goal to pick up the win.

The Devils return to action on Tuesday, October 13, 2009, at home against Wilkes beginning at 7 pm.
