Garrett deMarrais was hired in August of 2025 with his first season as skipper in 2026.
In his first season at the helm, deMarrais led the Devils to the best start in program history, winning their first six games of the 2026 season. Under his guidance, three FDU student-athletes earned MAC Freedom All-Conference honors, while four received MAC Freedom Player or Pitcher of the Week recognition and two earned NCAA Division III Team of the Week honors. FDU also set a program single-season record with 108 hit-by-pitches in 2026, ranking ninth nationally in Division III.
Prior to arriving at FDU, deMarrais spent three seasons as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Misericordia University from 2022-25. During his tenure, the Cougars compiled a 110-42 record and captured the 2024 NCAA Division III National Championship. Misericordia made consecutive appearances in the NCAA Division III World Series in 2023 and 2024, won consecutive regional and super-regional championships, and captured the 2024 MAC Freedom Championship.
DeMarrais played a key role in the development of Misericordia's hitters and infielders, helping the program produce 16 All-Conference selections, nine All-Region selections and three All-Americans from 2023-25. He coached 2024 NCAA Division III ABCA/Rawlings Position Player of the Year Connor Maryniak and helped develop Garrett McIlhenney, who set the program's single-season hits record with 74 in 2024.
As Misericordia's recruiting coordinator, deMarrais spearheaded the recruitment of more than 60 student-athletes on a national and regional level. He also oversaw the program's baserunning strategies and served as the first-base coach. Misericordia ranked first nationally in Division III in stolen bases in both 2023 and 2024 and fifth in 2025.
Before his time at Misericordia, deMarrais served as a part-time assistant coach at Stockton University in 2022, where he worked with hitters and infielders, assisted with recruiting and served as the team's first-base coach.
DeMarrais began his coaching career with Grit/Northeast Supreme Baseball, where he served as a head coach, private instructor and camp director from 2018-21. He also spent time as a United States History and Sociology teacher at Absegami High School in Galloway, N.J.
A former captain of the Stockton baseball program from 2019-21, deMarrais earned NJAC All-Academic Honorable Mention recognition each of his final three seasons. He earned a bachelor's degree in political science with a concentration in education and a minor in business studies from Stockton in 2021 before completing his Master of Business Administration in Sport Management at Misericordia in 2024.
DeMarrais is also a member of the ABCA NCAA Division III Assistant Coaches Committee.
