CAREER WRITE-UP
Miguel Nieto joined the FDU women's soccer in the summer of 2018 as an Assistant Coach.
Coach Nieto has over 28 years of coaching and training experience from intown recreation programs to traveling and elite soccer academy teams for girls from U8 through U19. In addition to his several years developing the recreation soccer program in Linden NJ, Coach Nieto is one of the founders of the Linden Youth Soccer Association traveling program where he was one of the first traveling team coaches, Trustee and Vice-President. He was involved with the recruitment and development of the players and running tryouts, scheduling the games, developing club rules and guidelines, and club fund raising activities, etc.
Through his professional work, Mr. Nieto lived in Florida for four years, where he was involved with the Wellington Soccer Club developing and coaching the girls’ soccer program U9G and U10G traveling teams playing in the FLUGSA League, winning several tournaments. Coach Nieto was also involved with Schulz Academy/Boca Juniors Soccer Club where he was training players from 7 to 12 years old.
After coming back to NJ, Coach Nieto continued coaching and training and decided to put together a U10G girls team. He continued coaching this team for nine years playing at MNJYSA, JAGS, EDP and NPL. Main team accomplishments included: U14G Premier Elite NJ Cup 2013 Finalist, US Club Soccer National Cup XII Mid-Atlantic Regional Champions, US Club Soccer National Cup XII Finalist in Aurora CO. US Club Soccer National Cup XV Mid-Atlantic Regional Champions, US Club Soccer National Cup XV 3rd Place in Aurora CO. NEWS, Bethesda and miscellaneous EDP Cup Showcases Champions. Thirteen of these players are playing college soccer from Division 3 to Division 1.
As a soccer player, coach Nieto played for his hometown of Bogota, Colombia at the intown league, HS, College and Second Division playing for “Caterpillar” winning the championship in 1982. After he moved to the US, he played in the Garden State League for several years.
Coach Nieto earned his bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Universidad Santo Tomas, Colombia in 1986. He received his Master’s Degree in Civil Structural Engineering from NJIT in 1993. Coach Nieto is a Licensed Professional engineer in the states of NJ, MD and FL with over 30 years of professional engineering experience. Coach Nieto works for Mott MacDonald as the Structural Department Manager at the Iselin NJ office.
Coach Nieto holds a USSF National “C” License, USSF national “D” License and NJYSA “E” and “F” Licenses. Director of Coaching, Goalkeeping Level 1 and NSCAA Special Topics - Player Development Curriculum Diploma, Key Moments of the Game Diploma and Special Topics Diploma-Defending Principles.
