Madison, NJ (April 26) – The FDU Devils Women's Lacrosse celebrated their graduating seniors during their final game of the season against Misericordia, but unfortunately the Devils lost a close game to the Cougars, 15-14. Juliana Medina (Linwood, NJ) led the FDU Women's Lacrosse team in scoring 4 goals against the Misericordia Cougars. In goal for FDU was Alison Kozik (Ellington, CT), who saved 11 of the 23 shots faced.
Following Medina in scoring were Alexis Ashton (Blairstown, NJ), Maya Henri (South Brunswick, NJ), and Claudia Zappia (South Brunswick, NJ), each with 3 goals, and Cassidy Gesualdo (Edison, NJ) with 1.
In the first quarter of play, the Misericordia Cougars got on the board early and took the lead at the 14:10 minute mark, 1-0. It was not until the 7:23 time stamp that the Devils answered and put up back-to-back shots, both goals coming from Medina 2-1. The Cougars evened the score to 2-2 with 11 seconds left of the first quarter. FDU took their lead back during the final seconds of the quarter with a successful free-position shot by Gesualdo, taking the score to 3-2.
During the second quarter, the Devils and Cougars went goal for goal with FDU scorers Ashton, Henri, and Zappia keeping the Devils in the lead, 6-7 at the 4:29 time stamp. Henri, Medina, and Ashton finished out the quarter for the Devils, bringing the score to 10-6 at the half.
The Devils kept a comfortable lead in the beginning half of the third quarter as Henri and Medina continued to score against the Cougars, 12-8 at the 4:50 time stamp. During the final minute of game play in the quarter, Misericordia was able to go on a 4-goal unanswered run against the Devils, evening the score to 12-12. FDU scorer Zappia earned the Devils their final goal of the quarter, putting the Devils back in the lead 13-12.
Early in the fourth quarter, Misericordia took a 1-point lead against the Devils at the 13:21 time stamp, 14-13. The score remained close as the game was tied 14-14 with 9:07 left. The Cougars regained the lead with 6:19 remaining and held off the Devils as Misericordia won 15-14.
As a team, FDU-Florham took 27 shots, 14 ground balls, and 12 draw controls.
Lebanon Valley totaled 43 shots, 19 ground balls, and 20 draw controls.
