Women's Basketball Truimph Over Delaware Valley, 66-57

Doylestown, PA (February 5) FDU-Florham Women's Basketball traveled to take on Delaware Valley, and triumphed over them by a score of 66-57.

FDU-Florham (7-13, 4-5 MAC Freedom) was led by Kolby Lynch (Morristown, NJ), scoring 18 points and earning five assists.
 
Delaware Valley's (3-17, 1-8 MAC Freedom) best player on the court was Haley Keenan, who scored 15 points.

Lynch put in the first points of the game for the Devils on a layup. After a three-pointer from the Aggies, jumpers from Christina Centeno (Bayonne, NJ) and Bianca Sode (Kenilworth, NJ), as well as a layup from Shannon Tighe (Wayne, NJ) put the Devils up by five. A Delaware Valley layup was responded to by one of Centeno's own, but then the Aggies went on to score the next nine points to take the lead back. The Devils held with them, with Tighe hitting free throws to make it a two point game, but the Aggies went on another five point run to push their lead to seven. Lynch hit a layup and a free throw as the quarter closed, and with ten minutes gone, Delaware Valley held a four point lead, with the score being 19-15.

The quarter started with a layup from the Aggies, before Centeno responded with a jumper. Sode tipped in a basket after 2 points were scored from the Aggies. Julia Vazquez (Bound Brook, NJ) hit a free throw before Delaware Valley responded with free throws of their own. FDU then tied the game from a three-pointer from Vazquez and a layup from Lynch, but Delaware Valley took it back with a jumper and two free throws. Vazquez closed out the quarter for the Devils with two made buckets, and at halftime, the score did not change, as Delaware Valley remained in front by four, with the score being 33-29.

Lynch started off the second half with a free throw that was responded to by an Aggie layup. The next few possessions were traded, as points came from Lynch and Vazquez for the Devils. Lynch and Centeno struck to make it a one-possession game, before Delaware scored three straight points. Vazquez scored more free throws, with Delaware Valley doing the same. Lynch hit a jumper before an Aggie free throw ended the quarter. The game remained close with ten minutes to go, as Delaware held a three-point lead, with the score being 45-42.

FDU blew down the doors in the fourth quarter, as they score twice as many points as the Aggies. Sode started off the quarter with a layup that was responded to from Delaware Valley. Then FDU got their best run of the game, scoring 13 straight points off of baskets from Lynch, Tighe, Centeno, and Vazquez, and earning a ten point lead. After a layup from Delaware Valley, a Sode layup and a Centeno three-pointer expanded the lead to 13. The Aggies scored back-to-back layups, but Tighe put up free throws to stop the Aggies momentum. A jumper for Delaware Valley was responded to by more free throws from Tighe, and a layup from Delaware Valley ended the game, with FDU triumphing over Delaware Valley, 66-57.

FDU-Florham shot 39.3% (24-61) from the floor, 25.0% (3-12) from three-point range, and 75.0% (15-20) from the free throw line, while Delaware Valley shot 32.3% (20-62) from the floor, 14.3% (2-14) from three-point range and 71.4% (15-21) from the free throw line.

FDU scored more on second chances (21-7) and fast break points (12-11), while Delaware Valley scored more on turnovers (19-11) and bench points (15-0). Both teams were equal on points in the paint (36-36).

The Devils will return home to celebrate Girls & Women in Sports Day, as they will take on DeSales on February 8th. Tip-Off will be at 1:00 PM.
