Madison, N.J. (February 23) – The FDU-Florham baseball team (1-1) hosted Saint Elizabeth in the second part of the Madison Avenue challenge. Unfortunately, they fell short by a score of 8-4
Nicholas Colbert (Belmar, NJ) started was the best hitter for the Devils, as he earned two hits, with one of them being a triple, and one RBI.
John Rolli (Long Valley, NJ) also had a productive day, getting two hits.
Dominic Falino (Miller Place, NJ) also added an RBI to his total.
The game remained scoreless until the second inning, where Saint Elizabeth scored their first two runs on two singles. The Devils struck right back in the second inning scoring two of their own. Rolli reached on an error to set up the inning. After stealing second, he was brought in by a Falino double.
Mark Geist (Middlesex, NJ) brought in Falino on a double to tie the game up at two.
In the third, a run scored on a double steal executed nicely by the runners to take a 3-2 lead. The game remained scoreless until the fifth inning, where Saint Elizabeth extended their lead on a balk to bring the runner home. FDU responded in the bottom half of the inning.
Parker Muratore (Branchburg, NJ) singled to start the inning, and advanced to third base on a stolen base and a dropped third strike. Colbert brought him in with an RBI single, but that's all the Devils could execute, and after five innings, the game was still close, with the score being 4-3.
The Eagles proceeded to score the next four runs of the game, on a single in the sixth inning, and blew the door open in the eighth, scoring three runs on a single and an error to make the score 8-3. FDU scored one more run in the bottom of the eighth, as
Aaron Santos (Bridgewater, NJ) hit a triple to start the inning, and scored on a single from Rolli. The rest of the game saw no more run production, and Saint Elizabeth defeated FDU 8-4.
Trevor Kobryn (Hillsborough, NJ) started the game for FDU, and went 2.1 innings while giving up three hits and three runs, with two of them being earned, while also striking out three batters.
Alex DeSimone (Long Valley, NJ) had a productive outing, going 2.2 innings as he gave up two hits and one earned run while striking out two batters.
Trenon Stanard (Millington, NJ) had was also productive as he threw for two innings, while only giving up three hits, and striking out one.
Colby Craig (Chester, NJ) closed out the game for FDU, as for the last two innings he pitched, he struck out a batter while giving up three hits and three runs, with two of them being earned.
FDU-Florham will continue their home stand as they battle NJCU on February 25
th. First pitch will be at 2:30 PM.
