Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's Basketball Defeated By DeSales, 70-34

Madison, NJ (January 11) FDU-Florham Women's Basketball traveled to Center Valley, Pennsylvania to take on the Bulldogs of DeSales. Unfortunately, FDU could not come up with the win, as they were defeated by a score of 70-34.

FDU-Florham (3-10, 0-2 MAC Freedom) was led by Bianca Sode (Kenilworth, NJ), who scored 8 points. Sode also managed to secure 12 rebounds.

DeSales's (9-4, 2-0 MAC Freedom) best player on the court was Kayla Ishigami, who scored 12 points.

The first quarter of the game started rather slowly, as through the first five minutes, FDU held a 2-1 lead thanks to a Kolby Lynch (Morristown, NJ) jumper. After that point, however, both offenses woke up. DeSales took the lead on a three-pointer and extended it through a pair of free throws before Kristen Mellon (Southampton, NJ) made a deep two-pointer to cut the Bulldogs advantage to a single possession. A three-pointer and a jumper extended the lead for DeSales before Lynch hit another jumper to cut the deficit to five points. A Bulldogs layup was then responded to by a turnaround jump shot from Shannon Tighe (Wayne, NJ). DeSales scored the last three points of the quarter, and with 10 minutes gone from the game, DeSales held a 16-8 lead.

The first few points of the second quarter came from DeSales, as they scored four straight points before the Devils responded with four points of their own, first by a pair of free throws from Sode and then from a layup by Tighe. The Bulldogs offense went on a 6-0 scoring run before it was put to an end by a Lynch jumper. Mellon hit a layup off her rebound before DeSales hit back-to-back threes to close the second quarter. With the game halfway done, DeSales held an 18-point lead, scoring 34-16.

The third quarter was dominated offensively by the Bulldogs. It started with seven straight points from the Bulldogs before Julia Vazquez (Bound Brook, NJ) hit a driving layup. DeSales scored the next 10 points of the game before Sode ended the scoring run with a hook shot. The Bulldogs closed out the quarter on a 9-4 scoring run, with the Devils seeing points from Destiny Knight (Philadelphia, Pa.) and Gabrielle Walker (Old Bridge, NJ), the latter of which scored the last points of the quarter with a layup. With 10 minutes to go in the game, DeSales held a 60-24 lead.

DeSales opened the fourth quarter with four straight points before the Devils responded with six points of their own, coming off two jumpers by Sode and one by Christina Centeno (Bayonne, NJ). Four more points from the Bulldogs were responded to by a pair of free throws from Centeno. DeSales put up a pull-up jumper before Jasmine Relovsky (Whitehouse Station, NJ) hit a layup for the final points of the game. DeSales ended up winning the game by a score of 70-34.

FDU-Florham shot 22.7% (15-66) from the floor, 0% (0-10) from three-point range, and 66.7% (4-6) from the free throw line, while DeSales shot 39.7% (27-68) from the floor, 35.0% (7-20) from three-point range and 64.3% (9-14) from the free throw line.
