Lopez’s Offensive Showcase Propels Women’s Soccer Past William Paterson, 3-1

Wayne, NJ. (September 7) – Senior forward Mia Lopez (Rockaway, N.J.) showcased her offensive prowess today, being tabbed on all three of the Devils' three goals to help propel the FDU-Florham women's soccer team past William Paterson, 3-1 on Saturday afternoon.

Records: FDU-Florham (2-1-0); William Paterson (1-2-1)
Location: Wayne, N.J. (Pioneer Soccer Park)
FDU Goal Scorers: Lopez (2), Letizia (1)

The Devils had the advantage in the first half, generating 10 of 12 total shots in the first half with seven of them landing on goal but could not seem to find the back of the net due to some impressive work in net by Pioneer goalkeeper Sarah Montilla, who collected five first half saves and two team saves that kept the score at zeros heading into the second half.

FDU finally got themselves on the board at the 58:32 time stamp when Shelli Nolan (Columbus, N.J.) found Lopez for the go-ahead goal to give the Devils a 1-0 lead.

The Pioneers answered quickly however when Christina Jimenez put the ball into the high right portion of the goal on a pass from Julia Fiorito to tie the game 1-1 at the 61:40 mark.

In almost near succession, Fairleigh Dickinson scored two goals to give themselves a 3-1 edge. Lopez found her second goal and the eventual game-winner at the 66:38 timestamp, placing the ball into the lower right section of the net off an assist from Ashleigh Frankel (Branchburg, N.J.) and then Emma Letizia (North Haledon, N.J.) netted her first career goal on a rebound assist from Lopez at the 67th minute.
The Devil defense clamped down the rest of the way and left Pioneer Soccer Park the victors.

Ava Gianni (North Brunswick, N.J.) got the win in between the pipes and made three saves in the contest.

As a team, Fairleigh Dickinson generated 20 shots (14 on goal) to William Paterson's nine (five on goal). The Pioneers led the game in corner kicks with seven to the Devils four.

FDU-Florham will return home in their next contest when they matchup with Sarah Lawrence on Monday, September 9 for a 7:00pm kickoff.
