Baseball Falls in Season-Finale Doubleheader to Centenary

Madison, N.J. (April 30) – The FDU-Florham baseball team (14-26) fell in their season-finale today with two losses during their seven-inning doubleheader against Centenary (17-22), 3-2 and 9-6 on Tuesday afternoon.
 
 
Jake Hendershot (Martinsville, N.J.) totaled two hits on the day that included a three-run homer, which was his only one of the season. Aaron Santos (Bridgewater, N.J.) totaled three hits in the contest while Peter Longo (Cherry Hill, N.J.) notched two hits, two RBI and a triple.
 
Game One
 
The Cyclones had the early advantage with two runs in the top of the second inning. They scored on an RBI single down the left line and an RBI single up the middle for a 2-0 lead.
 
FDU halved the lead to 2-1 in the bottom of the fourth inning. Facing two outs, Matt Aber (Basking Ridge, N.J.) singled to left field and was followed up by Santos up the middle. It was Brody Donovan (South Plainfield, N.J.) who brought home on an RBI single to third base.
 
The Devils were able to tie the game in the bottom of the sixth inning. Hendershot led off with a double down the left field line. He was advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Jack Giovenco (Allentown, Pa.) and was plated on a sacrifice fly by Aber.
 
With the games being agreed to for seven innings, the game went into extra innings into the eighth inning, where the Cyclones took the 3-2 advantage on a sacrifice fly and held on for the game one victory.
 
Evan Sabo (Hillsborough, N.J.) got the start in game one. He pitched two innings and allowed two runs on four hits and a strikeout. Jake Stollar (Flemington, N.J.) suffered the loss as the pitcher of record when the team lost the lead. He pitched one inning and allowed one run on one hit and struck out two batters.
 
Game Two
 
The Cyclones went up in game to again in game two with a run in the beginning to innings to take a 2-0 lead. They scored on an RBI single through the right side and a home run.
 
The Devils fired back with four runs in the bottom of the second inning to flip the lead to 4-2. John Rolli (Long Valley, N.J.) reached on a fielder's choice and advanced when Dylan Hode (Manalapan, N.J.) was hit by pitch. Longo brought Rolli home on an RBI single through the left side. Both Longo and Hode scored when Hendershot blasted his first home run of the season over the left center fence.
 
Centenary was able to tie the game up 4-4 after the fourth inning and eventually regained the lead with a four-run top of the fifth inning to hold an 8-4 advantage.
 
Fairleigh Dickinson cut into the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning on an RBI triple by Longo to right field, but the Cyclones answered back in the top of the seventh with a run of their own on an RBI double to right center for a 9-5 lead heading into the final frame. The Devils tried to mount a comeback but were only able to gain one run and Centenary completed the series sweep with a 9-6 game two victory.
 
Ryan Krug (Long Hill, N.J.)  got his first start of the season and pitched his longest outing with four innings pitched. He allowed four runs on seven hits but struck out four batters. Eddie Appollina (Annandale, N.J.) suffered the loss in relief.
