Dallas, PA (April 27) –
Alexis Ashton (Blairstown, NJ) led the FDU-Florham Women's Lacrosse (5-9, 2-5 MAC Freedom) team with eight goals in their game against Misericordia (7-8, 5-2 MAC Freedom) on Saturday afternoon where they ultimately lost, 26-16.
Ashton led the Devils with ten points consisting of eight goals and two assists.
Claudia Zappia (South Brunswick, NJ) followed with six goals and two assists.
Alison Kozik(Ellington, CT) got the loss in the cage for the Devils saving 10 of the 36 shots faced.
Michelle Torzollli led the Cougars with 10 goals goals. Natalie McKinney got the win in the net saving 11 shots.
Both teams were tied 2-2 at the 10:48 mark until Ashton followed up goals from
Madison Ballesteros (Parsippany, NJ) and
Jenna Ranney (Forest Hills, MD) to give the Devils their only lead of the night with a score of 3-2. Misericordia quickly took the lead back and went on to score four unanswered goals to make the score 6-3. FDU was able to tie the game after a stint from Ashton and Ballesteros that made the score 6-6. The Cougars ended up scoring one more to end the quarter with a 7-6 lead. Misericordia then went on to outscore the Devils 6-2 in the second quarter as the Devils only saw goals from
Julianna Medina (Linwood, NJ) and Ashton. This allowed the Cougars to get a 13-8 advantage going into halftime.
Misericordia came out of halftime scoring two back-to-back goals to extend their lead, 15-8. With 12:02 remaining in the third quarter, the Devils then went on a 5-1 run seeing goals from Ashton, Ballesteros, Ranney, and Zappia to make it a 16-13 game. For the remainder of the game the Cougars outscored the Devils,10-2 which saw FDU dropping their season finale to Misericordia 26-16.
As a team, FDU-Florham took 27 shots, 18 ground balls, and 19 draw controls.
Misericordia totaled 36 shots on goal, 16 ground balls, and 26 draw controls.
