Dallas, Pa. (April 14) – Despite a late comeback attempt that included a grand slam by junior
Aaron Santos (Bridgewater, N.J.), #19 Misericordia (20-8, 12-1 MAC Freedom) was able to hold off The FDU-Florham baseball team (10-20, 3-12 MAC Freedom) , 7-4 to complete the conference series sweep after two wins yesterday.
Aaron Santos (Bridgewater, N.J.) had himself another great day as he finished three-for-four with four RBI.
Matt Aber (Basking Ridge, N.J.) and
Jake Hendershot (Martinsville, N.J.) both recorded a hit and a run scored on the day.
Misericordia took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning on an RBI single to center field and extended their lead in to 4-0 in the bottom of the fifth on a two-run homer and an RBI single to center field.
After two more runs in the sixth frame on an sacrifice fly to left field and an RBI single to left field, the Cougars added one more run in the eighth inning on an RBI double to left field to hold a 7-0 advantage heading into the final half inning.
The Devils put pressure on Misericordia and attempted to mount a deep comeback. Both Hendershot and
John Rolli (Long Valley, N.J.) were walked to start off the inning. Aber singled to right field to set up Santos up with a grand slam to cut the lead to 7-4. The Misericordia defense was able to hold off after that to seal the Sunday afternoon win and complete the conference series sweep.
Robbie Hughes (Union, N.J.) got the start and suffered the loss. He pitched 2.2 innings, allowed one run on one hit and struck out a batter.
FDU-Florham will stay on the road for non-conference action as they travel to take on SUNY Maritime on Tuesday, April 16 under the lights at 7:15pm.
