Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Women’s Lacrosse Falls to Kean, 18-9

Madison, NJ  (March 29) – The FDU-Florham Women's Lacrosse (3-4) team fell to Kean University (5-3) on Friday evening, 19-8.
 
Julianna Medina (Linwood, NJ) was the leader in points totaling five for the day, including four goals and one assist. Alison Kozik(Ellington, CT) got the loss in the cage for the Devils making nine saves.
 
Kylie Giordano led the way for the Cougars with six goals and three assists. Nicole Peters got the win in the net saving 8 out of 16 shots.
 
After six minutes of back-and-forth action, Kean netted the first goal of the game and took off from there. FDU was scoreless in the first quarter as the Cougars went on to score seven unanswered goals to end the first quarter with a 7-0 lead.
 
The Cougars started the second quarter off with a goal, but the Devils went on a 4-2 run that ended with 3:19 remaining in the first half to make the score 10-4. This Devils run included goals from Alexis Ashton (Blairstown, NJ) and Medina. However, Kean was able to capitalize on a free position shot with one second left in the quarter to extend their lead. This saw FDU going into halftime at an 11-4 deficit.
 
Jenna Ranney (Forest Hill, MD) started the third quarter after she was able to find the back of the net on a free position shot attempt at the 11:09 mark. Kean was able to do the same two minutes later, but Claudia Zappia (South Brunswick, NJ) answered right back scoring off a pass from Medina to cut the Devils deficit 12-6. The Cougars scored two more goals to end the half, which made the score 14-6. Fairleigh Dickinson was outscored by Kean 5-2 in the fourth quarter as Madison Ballesteros (Parsippany, NJ) and Medina were the only two to find the back of the net. This ultimately led to Kean beating FDU-Florham 19-8.
 
As a team, FDU-Florham took 26 shots, 17 ground balls, and 10 draw controls. The Devils also went 11-18 on clear attempts.
 
Kean totaled 35 shots on goal, 19 ground balls, and 19 draw controls.
 
FDU-Florham begins MAC-Freedom conference play as they travel to Arcadia for their next contest on Wednesday, April 3 at 6:00 pm.
