Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's Basketball Falls Short Against Franklin and Marshall, 63-55

Rochester, NY (November 9) FDU-Florham Women's Basketball team played against Franklin and Marshall in the consolation game of the Chuck Resler tournament, and lost 63-55.

FDU-Florham (0-2, 0-0 MAC Freedom) was again lead by Kolby Lynch (Morristown, NJ), who scored 14 points with two assists and four rebounds. Shannon Tighe (Wayne, NJ) earned her first double-double of the season, scoring ten points and racking up 11 rebounds.

Franklin and Marshall's (1-1, 0-0 Centennial) best player on the night was Kennedy Wilburn, who scored 18 points and earned 17 rebounds.

The first quarter started well for the Diplomats, who started the game on a 10-2 run. FDU responded with two straight jumpers from Christina Centeno (Bayonne, NJ) and Gabrielle Walker (Old Bridge, NJ), who scored on the fast break to cut the lead down to four. The Diplomats answered with some made shots, and at the end of the first quarter, the score was 17-10 in favor of Franklin and Marshall.

The Diplomats carried that momentum into the second quarter, scoring five of the first seven points. That was ended by a tip in from Tighe, and the lead was further cut by a three-pointer from Amaya Fifield (Cambridge, M.A.). The rest of the quarter saw traded baskets from each side, and at the end of the first half, the score was 33-21, with Franklin and Marshall leading.

The third quarter started with a couple of buckets from each side, when a Tighe three-pointer cut the deficit to ten. Unfortunately, the Diplomats started to pull away in the latter half of the third quarter, and although free throws from Laila Tatis (Parsippany, NJ) and Destiny Knight (Philadelphia, Pa) made the game closer, the third half still ended with the Diplomats ahead by 14.

The fourth quarter is where the Devils put in their best effort, as they started the quarter on a 10-2 run. A tip in from Lynch made it only a two-possession game with 5:40 left in the quarter. FDU chipped the lead down to four points with 23 seconds left in the game, but it wasn't enough, and the Diplomats hung on to win 63-55 against the Devils.

FDU-Florham shot 31.7% (20-63) from the floor, 25% (2-8) from three-point range, and 52%  (13-25) from the free throw line, while Franklin and Marshall shot 28.6% (16-for-56) from the floor, 28.6% (6-21) from three point range and 65.8% (25-for-38) from the free throw line.

Franklin and Marshall ended with more points off turnovers (13-8) and more fast break points (9-6), while FDU scored more second chance points (12-6) and more points in the paint (28-18). Both teams had equal production from their bench players (14-14).

The Devils will compete in their home opener against St. Elizabeth in the Madison Avenue Challenge on November 14th at 6:00 PM.
