Wilkes-Barre, Pa. (April 7) – After suffering a heartbreaking 11-inning contest on Friday, the FDU-Florham baseball team (7-14, 4-5 MAC FREE) locked in and took the series from King's (9-14, 2-10 MAC FREE) with two wins on Sunday's doubleheader, 6-5 and 8-3.
Game One
An RBI double to left center by
Tyler McCulloch (Berkeley Heights, NJ) gave the Devils the early 1-0 edge in the top of the first inning. The Monarchs answered quickly however as an RBI single up the middle tied the contest after one inning. King's took the advantage in the bottom of the fourth inning on an RBI double to right field.
FDU retook the lead quickly in the top of the fifth inning when
Mark Geist (Middlesex, NJ) drove
Sean Wodell (Freehold, NJ) home on a single through the left side and
Zach Ganca (Merrick, N.Y.) who plated Geist on an RBI single to left field. King's tied the game in the bottom of the frame on a double down the left field line and took a 5-3 lead on a two-RBI single to right field.
Backs against the wall, the Devils got just enough runs in the top of the seventh, getting the three runs they needed to take the lead and eventually the win.
Gabe Francisco (Rutherford, NJ) scored the game-winning run as he was able to make it home on an error by the third baseman.
Nick Rizos (Wood Ridge, NJ) got the start for the Devils, pitching 4.2 innings while allowing two earned runs and striking out a season-high six batters.
