Davenport, Fla. (March 18) – The FDU-Florham baseball team wrapped up its trip to Florida with a pair of setbacks to TCNJ, 4-3, in 12 innings and to Keystone College, 19-5, at the Lake Myrtle Complex. FDU-Florham fell to 5-8 on the season after this week in Florida.
Game 1 vs. TCNJ:
FDU-Florham first-year starter
Nick Rizos (Wood Ridge, NJ) got the start this afternoon in the opener and pitched 6.1 innings, scattered six hits and allowed three runs and kept the Devils in the game. TCNJ scored one in the fourth in a double play and one in the sixth on an RBI double before FDU-Florham scored its first run of the game in the seventh on an RBI single to right by
Tyrus Chippendale (Middlesex, NJ).
Trailing 3-1 in the eighth, FDU-Florham rallied to tie the game at 3-3 on an RBI single to left by
Jimmy Finnerty (Augusta, NJ) and a wild pitch.
Jake Rivera (West Islip, NY) pitched 1.2 shutout innings and handed the ball off to
Colby Craig (Chester, NJ) who pitched nearly four innings deep into the 12th.
In the bottom of the 12th, TCNJ put together the winning run on two walks and a wild pitch before Hochhesier singled for the walk off victory.
In the opener, both Chippendale and
Gabe Francisco (Rutherford, NJ) registered three hits for the Devils.
Game 2 vs. Keystone:
FDU-Florham struck first in the bottom of the first inning as
Dylan Hode (Manalapan, NJ) plated Chippendale and
Brody Donovan (South Plainfield, NJ) drove in two on double for a 3-0 edge. Keystone answered with six runs in the second, four in the third and five in the fourth for a 15-5 advantage midway through.
Keystone's rally was highlighted by a grand slam by Raimo in the second inning, while FDU-Florham
Matt Aber (Basking Ridge, NJ) roped an RBI single, while
Aaron Santos (Bridgewater, NJ) lined an RBI triple to the outfield.
Keystone's pitching staff held FDU-Florham scoreless for the remainder of the game and scored four in the seventh to end the game by a 19-5 final in a mercy rule win.
FDU-Florham will return home and play Merchant Marine in King's Point, NY on Wednesday, March 22 at 3:30 pm.
