Women’s Lacrosse Falls Short Against Stevenson, 13-10

Mesa, Ariz. (March 14) – A 12-goal first half by the Mustangs was too much to overcome as the FDU-Florham women's lacrosse team (1-4) fell short against Stevenson (1-5), 13-10 during their first spring break game in Arizona on Tuesday morning.

Lizzy Escudero (Bridgewater, NJ) led the way for the Devils in scoring for the third time this season as she notched four goals on the day along with an assist while Alexis Ashton (Blairstown, NJ) put in two goals of her own. Emma Barborak (Forest Lake, Minn.) also caused a season-high three turnovers in the contest while Alison Kozik (Ellington, Conn.) got the nod for the Devils in goal and made three saves in the loss.

Stevenson was led in scoring by Kara Yarusso who scored six times alongside Kellyann Coccia and Isabelle Vanemburgh who each collected three goals apiece. Sophie Shucosky got the win in goal for the Mustangs while making 10 saves in the game.

Stevenson jumped out to a 5-0 lead before Jenna Ranney (Forest Hill, Md.) and Escudero scored to cut the lead to 5-2. FDU tried to fight back after being down 8-3 in the middle of the second quarter with goals from Marissa Ross (Owings Mills, Md.) and Escudero that pushed the lead back to a three-goal difference but the Devils were outscored 4-1 the rest of the quarter to give the Mustangs a 12-6 edge going into the half. The FDU-Florham defense held Stevenson to only one goal in the second half but could only make up four of their own to ultimately fall 13-10.

As a team, The Devils had the edge in shots (25) and shots on goal (20). The two teams each won 13 draw controls and had 20 clear attempts in which Stevenson won that advantage, converting 17 clears to FDU's 13.

FDU-Florham will play its second and final spring break contest in Arizona on Thursday, April 16 at 4:00 pm eastern time against Western Connecticut.
