Mendham, NJ (September 19) – The FDU-Florham men's golf team opened its 2022 fall season this afternoon at the FDU Devils Fall Invitational hosted at Mendham Golf & Tennis Club. FDU-Florham's "A" team finished tied for fifth overall with a score of 334, while the "B" team finished 14th overall with a score of 383.
Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) rival Stevens Institute of Technology took the team title with a score of 302 (+14) and Ducks junior Gus Vickers won the individual title with a score of 70 (-2), five strokes ahead of the second place finisher.
In his first collegiate outing, first-year
Chris DeRogatis (Branchburg, NJ) posted a team-low 82 (+10), which was good enough for 19th overall in the field of 75 student-athletes. In today's round, DeRogatis tapped in for par eight times.
Graduate student
Austin Whiteman (Parsippany, NJ) finished just one stroke behind DeRogatis with an 83 (+11) for 22nd overall. Whiteman posted birdies on the 480-yard par 5, third hole, and the 144-yard par 3, fifth hole. Whiteman also recorded a par on seven different holes today.
Sophomore
Aidan Newman (Gainesville, Fla.) posted a career-low score of 84 (+12) in today's season-opening round with pars on eight different holes including the 517-yard par 5, eighth hole, and the 553-yard par 5, tenth hole.
Junior
Vinny Dasaro (Vernon, NJ) record a pair of birdies on the day and finished fourth for the Devils, 27th overall, with a score of 85 (+13). Dasaro posted birdies on the 480-yard par 5, third hole, and the 359-yard par 4, sixth hole. Sophomore
Grant Jenkins (Long Valley, NJ) rounded out the "A" team's efforts with a score of 90 (+18) in his first round with the Devils.
FDU-Florham's "B" squad was paced by junior
Andrew McKernan, who registered a score or 85 (+13). McKernan knocked in for birdie on the 480-yard par 5, third hole. First-year
Connor Dillon (Waldwick, NJ) posted a score of 92 in his first collegiate round that was highlighted by a birdie on the 175-yard par 3, 12th hole.
Ryan Mylod (Oak Ridge, NJ),
Dominic Aquilio (Basking Ridge, NJ) and
Ryan Sickinger all tallied scores over 100 in their first rounds of the year today and will look to lower that as the year progresses.
