Madison, NJ (April 27) – FDU-Florham baseball closed its non-conference regular season slate this afternoon with a 6-3 win over crosstown rival Saint Elizabeth University at Vincent J. and Lenda F. Naimoli Ballpark.
FDU-Florham is now 19-16 overall, while Saint Elizabeth fell to 14-18 on the year.
Saint Elizabeth jumped out to a 3-1 lead through four innings as the Eagles used a pair of RBI singles and a passed ball for their runs. FDU scored once in the bottom of the first on a bases loaded walk by
Vincent Ferrigno (Marlboro, NJ).
From that point on, FDU scored the remainder of the runs in today's game en route to the 6-3 victory.
Tyler McCulloch (Berkeley Heights, NJ) and
Sean Wodell (Freehold, NJ) both scored on sacrifice flies in the fifth and sixth inning to tie the game at three before
DJ Gonnelli (Berkeley Heights, NJ) played
Tyrus Chippendale (Middlesex, NJ) on a single to right for the 4-3 lead.
In the seventh,
Mark Geist (Middlesex, NJ) scored on a wild pitch and Wodell scored on a passed ball.
Zachary Clausen (Staten Island, NY) earned the win out of the pen for the Devils, the first of his career on two perfect innings, while
Colby Craig (Chester, NJ) picked up his ninth save of the season.
FDU will travel to Stevens Institute of Technology to open a three game MAC Freedom series on Friday, April 29 at 3:30 pm. The Devils will have to sweep the Ducks to secure a spot in the MAC Freedom playoffs.
