Madison, NJ (April 10) – The FDU-Florham softball team fell twice to St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) this afternoon in non-conference action on McManus Field. The Bears took game one by a 7-3 score and the nightcap, 14-3, in five innings.
FDU-Florham is now 7-9 on the season, while St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) is 11-6 on the year.
Game One: St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) 7, FDU 3
Both teams scored once in the first inning. The Bears scored on an RBI double by A. Hartwig and the Devils scored on a bunt by
Heather Priante (Howell, NJ). FDU was held off the scoreboard until the bottom of the seventh, but St. Joseph's was able to put together three in the fourth and three in the sixth to account for the 7-3 final.
M. McKeon knocked in three runs for the Bears on a pair of doubles. FDU's runs in the seventh came on a two-run single by
Colleen Conway (Amityville, NY).
Morgan DeLoreto (Denville, NJ) and
Abigail Wittig (Andover, NJ) registered two hits apiece in game one. Gabriella Salvador pitched a complete game for the Bears as she allowed nine hits and three runs (two earned) for her first win of the season.
Ciara Hoffman (Freehold, NJ) took the loss (5-5) on eight hits and seven runs (five earned) in six innings.
Game Two: St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) 14, FDU 3
The visitors scored 11 of their 14 runs in the first two innings of the nightcap – four in the first and seven in the second. The Bears used a groundout, two singles and a bases loaded walk for their runs in the first and a home run, a single, two walks, a groundout and a double for their seven runs in the second.
FDU put together its three runs in the bottom of the second on an RBI single by
Rachel Reiter (Riverside, Calif.), a wild pitch and an RBI single by Wittig.
St. Joseph's allowed just two base runners to reach over the final three innings as the Bears took game two, 14-3.
Kassidy Collentine (New Fairfield, Conn.) took the loss (0-1) on five hits and nine runs (eight earned) in just 1.1 innings in the circle, while Briana Kilimet earned the win (2-1) on three hits and three earned runs in three frames for the Bears.
FDU will return to MAC Freedom play with a doubleheader on McManus Field against Lycoming College on Friday, April 15 at 3:00 pm.
