Moore Blasts Game Winning Homer as Baseball Tops John Jay, 4-3

Madison, NJ (February 23) – A home run by FDU-Florham senior Tommy Moore (Mansfield, NJ) in the bottom of the sixth inning was the difference in today's game as the Devils rallied to defeat John Jay, 4-3, in a non-conference matchup played at Vincent J. and Lenda F. Naimoli Ballpark.

Moore went 1-for-2 with two walks for FDU-Florham (3-0) with his first homer of the season today, while Jimmy Finnerty (Augusta, NJ)Vincent Ferrigno (Marlboro, NJ) and Tyrus Chippendale (Middlesex, NJ)all added one RBI apiece for the Devils.

Chippendale plated FDU's first run of the ballgame in the bottom of the second with a two-out RBI double down the left field line. The Devils added two more in the bottom of the third on an RBI double down the right field line by Ferrigno and a hard hit single to third.

FDU kept John Jay off the board until the top of the fifth. The Bloodhounds loaded the bases on two walks and a double and with two outs in the frame, David Michalski cleared the bases and tied the game at 3-3 with a double to deep center field.

With the go ahead runners on second and third in the top of the six for the Bloodhounds, Michael Dunay (Stockholm, NJ) worked out of the jam with two strikeouts and a lineout, preserving the tie game. Moore came to bat for the Devils in the bottom of the frame and launched the ball over the fence for the 4-3 advantage.

Dunay returned to the hill and scattered two hits but retired the three batters he needed to on fly outs in the top of the seventh to keep the score where it was. FDU's closer Colby Craig (Chester, NJ) came on in the eighth inning with the tying and go ahead runs on base. The first-year punched out two and got the final batter of the game to ground out earning the first save of his collegiate career.

Anthony Molina (Bound Brook, NJ) got his first start of the season for the Devils and allowed two runs, three hits and struck out three in 4.1 innings. Dunay earned the win (1-0) with his two scoreless frames and two strikeouts. Matthew Brennan shouldered the loss (0-1) for John Jay (0-1) as he surrendered the go ahead homer in the sixth inning.

FDU will return to Vincent J. and Lenda F. Naimoli Ballpark on Sunday, February 27 with a doubleheader against CCNY beginning at 12:00 pm.
