Doylestown, Pa. (February 21) – A late rally by the ninth-seeded FDU-Florham women's basketball team fell short tonight as eighth-seeded Delaware Valley University topped the Devils 54-46 in the opening round of the 2022 Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) postseason tournament.
FDU-Florham sees its season come to a close with a 2-20 overall record, while Delaware Valley, now 7-14 on the year, moves on to the MAC Freedom quarterfinals and will play at DeSales University on Wednesday, February 23 at 6:00 pm.
Sophomore
Tamyah Jones (Dover, Del.) led the Devils with 18 points tonight, while junior
Cassidy Miller (Roxbury, NJ) pulled down a career-high 15 rebounds in the effort for FDU-Florham. Senior
Brielle Fedo (Lake Hopatcong, NJ) chipped in with 12 points for the Devils as well.
Delaware Valley was guided by a 26-point, ten rebound double-double from Haley Kennan as well as 12 points and seven steals from Jess Williamson.
FDU trailed 7-4 early in the opening quarter before the Devils scored seven straight for an 11-7 edge following a jumper from Miller. The hosts scored the final six points of the stanza for a 13-11 lead through ten minutes of play. Delaware Valley outscored FDU 14-7 in the second for a 27-18 lead at the break.
In the final quarter, the hosts led by as many as 16 at 49-33 with 6:14 to play in regulation. The Devils fought and over the next four minutes outscored the Aggies by an 11-1 margin to cut their deficit to within six. Four straight made free throws down the stretch ended the game, 54-46, and FDU's season.
FDU shot 25.8-percent (17-for-66) from the floor, 15.4-percent (4-for-26) from three-point range and 61.5-percent (8-for-13) from the free throw line. The Devils scored 26 points in the paint and 19 points off of 23 Delaware Valley turnovers.
Delaware Valley shot 37.0-percent (20-for-54) from the floor, 13.6-percent (3-for-22) from three point range and 55.0-percent (11-for-2) from the free throw line. The Aggies scored 30 of their 54 points in the paint and 21 points off of 31 FDU turnovers.
