Madison, NJ (February 18) – FDU-Florham graduate student Christian Capuano (Vernon, NJ) threw seven shutout innings, struck out nine and allowed just one hit in today's 8-0 season opening win over Saint Elizabeth University at Vincent J. and Lenda F. Naimoli Ballpark.

FDU-Florham (1-0), in addition to Capuano's gem on the bump, received a pair of hits from Sean Wodell (Freehold, NJ)Tommy Moore (Mansfield, NJ)DJ Gonnelli (Berkeley Heights, NJ)Chris Kubas (New Providence, NJ) and Tyrus Chippendale (Middlesex, NJ). Moore paced the Devils with two RBI and a pair of runs on the day, while Wodell swiped a pair of bases for the hosts in the opener.

Moore scored FDU's first run of the season in the bottom of the third after he earned a walk to open the frame, moved to third on a double by Vincent Ferrigno (Marlboro, NJ) and crossed the plate on a groundout to shortstop by Jimmy Finnerty (Augusta, NJ).

FDU added two more in the fourth for a 3-0 edge. Kubas began the inning with a triple and then the Devils loaded the bases on back-to-back walks. A grounder by Moore plated Kubas and an RBI single up the middle plated Wodell before the third out was recorded.

The Devils took advantage of two errors by the visitors in the sixth and upped their lead to 5-0. An RBI double by Gonnelli that plated Ferrigno highlighted the inning for FDU-Florham. Two additional runs in the seventh came for the Devils via sacrifice fly and an RBI single by Chippendale in the eighth capped the scoring for FDU in the opener.

Capuano had a no-hitter through 5.2 innings and his only hit allowed came as an infield hit to the left side. Gonnelli came on to close the game and scattered three hits over two innings to seal the victory for the Devils.

FDU will return to Vincent J. and Lenda F. Naimoli Ballpark tomorrow afternoon and wrap up the Madison Avenue Challenge with a non-conference contest with Drew University at 2:00 pm.
