Danbury, Conn. (November 7) – The FDU-Florham women's soccer team has earned a spot in the 2022 Division III Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Tournament as the committee announced its selections this afternoon. FDU-Florham was selected as the top seed and as the host of the two-day tournament.
This will be FDU-Florham's tenth appearance in the ECAC Tournament and ninth under head coach
Kristin Giotta. FDU-Florham is 8-8-1 overall in 17 total ECAC Tournament games and has reached the championship round twice before, but not since the 2006 season.
FDU-Florham (15-5-1) is the top seed and will face-off with fourth-seeded Goucher College (8-6-3) in the semifinal round on Saturday, November 12 at 3:00 pm. In the first game of the day, which will also take place on Robert T. Shields Field, second-seeded DeSales University (12-6-2) will play third-seeded Cabrini University (12-5-1) at 12:00 pm. The winners of both games will play for the ECAC title on Sunday, November 13 at 1:00 pm.
This year's tournament features three teams which made their respective conference tournaments. FDU-Florham was the fifth seed in the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) Tournament and fell to DeSales in the 4/5 Play In Game, while DeSales went on to the MAC Freedom Semifinals and fell to #1 nationally-ranked Misericordia University. Cabrini reached the semifinals of the Atlantic East Conference (AEC) and was edged in penalty kicks to Neumann University.
This season, FDU-Florham has faced DeSales twice (2-0 loss on October 12 and 5-1 loss on October 31) and Cabrini (1-0 loss on October 1). FDU-Florham and Goucher have never faced each other.
