Jersey City, NJ (November 12) – The fifth-seeded FDU-Florham volleyball team was edged in five sets by fourth-seeded New Jersey City University (NJCU) in the quarterfinal round of the 2022 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship Tournament. The Gothic Knights won the match by set scores of 17-25, 25-15, 19-25, 25-21, 15-6.
FDU-Florham sees its season come to a close with an overall record of 13-12, while NJCU (17-11) advances to the semifinal round and will face-off with top-seeded Kean University tomorrow morning at 10:00 am.
Charlotte Fruscione (Mahwah, NJ) paced the FDU-Florham offense with nine kills, while
Jada Everett (Hackettstown, NJ) concluded the match with seven kills. Defensively,
Kiara Salme (Lyndhurst, NJ) registered a team-high 18 digs, while
Kacie Ros (Bridgewater, NJ) added 12 digs to her 21 assists.
Set 1: NJCU jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first before the Devils ripped off a 16-5 run to take their first lead of the match at 16-11. The run was powered by four kills from Everett and a pair of blocks from
Rachel Reiter (Riverside, Calif.). Up 21-17, the Devils used four errors from NJCU to take the first 25-17.
Set 2: NJCU took a 10-4 lead out of the gate and maintained that edge throughout the second set en route to a 25-15 win to tie the match at 1-1.
Set 3: Tied at 14-14, FDU-Florham built its lead to six with a 7-1 run that featured kills from three different Devils. Two additional errors by NJCU paired with a kill from Fruscione gave FDU-Florham a 25-19 set three win and a 2-1 lead in the match.
Set 4: The fourth set was knotted at 17-17 before NJCU went on a 6-0 run that gave the Gothic Knights enough of an edge to win the stanza 25-21.
Set 5: Both teams traded points in the fifth and final set before NJCU ended the match on a 12-3 run to advance to the ECAC semifinals.
