Women's Lacrosse Wins MAC Freedom Championship

Complete perfect 16-0 season

MADISON, NJ (May 1, 2021)- FDU Women's Lacrosse hosted Stevens Institute of Technology in the MAC Freedom Championship on Saturday afternoon, defeating the Ducks and taking home the crown, 15-14. With the victory, the Devils complete the first undefeated season in Women's Lacrosse program history.

Recap
It was a back and forth game from the start, with FDU taking control 4-0, before Stevens came storming back to regain the lead. The Ducks took a 7-6 lead into the second half and back and forth play ensued. Stevens held its largest lead of three twice, before the Devils tied the game at 10-10 with 13 minutes remaining. The two squads went back and forth, with three lead changes before FDU caused a late turnover under one-minute remaining and held on to the ball to secure the victory.

Walsh finished the game with eight points on seven goals and one assist. She also had a team-high six draw controls. Sophomores Kylee Garcia (4 goals) and Emma Ciquera (2 goals, 1 assist), along with first year Aubrey Hunter (2 goals) had great games offensively for the Devils.
 
MVP
First year Katie Walsh was named the tournament MVP and finished the 2021 MAC Freedom Championship with 13 points on 12 goals and one assist. She added 25 draws, three ground balls and two caused turnovers.

Up Next
With the victory, the Devils advance to the NCAA Tournament, with the NCAA Selection Show on Monday morning at 10:30 a.m.
