Baseball's Season Comes to a Close at Stevens

HOBOKEN, NJ (May 1, 2021)- FDU Baseball traveled to Stevens Institute of Technology on Saturday afternoon for the MAC Freedom Quarterfinals, falling in a doubleheader, 8-2 and 7-5. This concludes the 2021 campaign for the Devils.

Game 1- 8-2, L
Senior Christian Capuano started on the hill for FDU.

The Ducks jumped out early, socring four runs in the bottom of the first inning. FDU first year Tyrus Chippendale responded in the top of the second inning, roping a 2 RBI bases loaded single to cut the lead in half, 4-2. Capuano surrended one more Stevens run in the fourth, before handing the ball off to first year Jonathan Rodenhaver, down 5-2. FDU's offense was unable to capitalize in the remaining five innings and Stevens added three more to secure the 8-2 victory.

Chippendale and junior Tommy Moore each finished the day with two hits apiece.

Game 2- 7-5, L
Sophomore Anthony Molina got the start for the Devils, tossing 6.0 innings of three run ball, allowing three walks and striking out three. Molina gave the Devils offense a chance, leaving the game in the seventh with a 3-3 tie. After the Ducks took a 2-1 lead in the second inning, senior Matt Nodoro responded for FDU in the top of the third, knocking an RBI single to cut the lead to 2-1, scoring senior Nate Peacock. Stevens added one in the fourth to make it 3-1, but FDU continued to chip away. In the fifth, Chippendale scored on a wild pitch and in the sixth, Moore singled in senior AJ Yurista to tie the game up, 3-3.

After a zero in the bottom of the sixth from Molina, the Ducks found the answer on offense in the bottom of the seventh off of FDU reliever, senior Matt Godlewski. Stevens scored four runs in the half inning to take a 7-3 lead. Junior Tyler McCulloch and Moore did their best to mount the comeback, with McCulloch roping a single and Moore following it up with a two-run homer in the eighth to make it 7-5, but that wasn't enough. Stevens stranded a Devils runner in the ninth to secure the series sweep.

The Devils collected 10 hits on the day, three from Moore and two from Nodoro. Senior Michael Tufano, along with McCulloch, Chippendale, Yurista and senior Joe Moskowitx all collected a hit apiece.
