MADISON, NJ (March 20, 2021)- FDU softball hosted conference foe Misericordia University on Saturday, dropping both contests of the double header, 2-4 and 1-3. The Devils move to 1-3, while the Cougars go to 4-0.
Game One
Senior Kaleigh Oplinger started for the Devils in the circle.
FDU got on the board early in the contest, platting two runs in the bottom of the first inning. The first came off a RBI double from senior Abbey Scarengelli, scoring fellow senior Nicole Casale. The second came off a RBI single from junior Colleen Conway, scoring Scarengelli. DeSales would rally back and score four runs in the next three innings, one in the second, two in the third, and one in the fourth. Despite a one-two-three inning defensively in the top of the seventh, the Devils were unable to come back dropping the contest 4-2.
In the game Conway collected two hits and a RBI, while Scarengelli added a hit and a RBI.
Game Two
Junior Ciara Hoffman started in the circle for the Devils.
Misericordia started the second game with three runs in the first three innings of the game. The Devils defense came up with big plays down the stretch to keep the Cougars from scoring any more runs. The first was a diving catch in foul territory from first year Kristen Tigar. The second was a double play carried out by Hoffman, first year Heather Priante, and Casale. The Devils rallied in the seventh inning thanks to a RBI from first year Kacie Centineo, scoring Tigar.
In the game Centineo, senior Dani Sames, and junior Morgan DeLoreto each collected two hits.
Lead Devil
Centineo was everywhere for the Devils, finishing the DH 3-for-6 with an RBI and a BB. She also played very well defensively, making great plays all day in the outfield.
Hit Parade
FDU finished the day with 15 total hits, seven in game one and eight in game two.
Next Up
FDU returns to action tomorrow, Sunday, March 21, when they travel to Misericordia University for a DH starting at 12 pm.
