MADISON, NJ (February 18, 2020)- FDU Women's Basketball fell to Stevens Tech on Tuesday, 60-41. With the loss, the Devils fall to 6-18 on the season and 4-9 in the MAC Freedom Conference, while the Ducks improve to 10-14 overall and 7-6 in conference.
FIRST HALF
The opening minutes of the game were controlled by Stevens, jumping out to an early 7-2 lead. FDU would battle back, thanks to buckets from seniors
Cayla Staggers and
Jennah Roman. The Ducks would respond, outscoring FDU 11-2 down the stretch to finish quarter one up 18-8.
Stevens continued the second quarter right where they left off, building their lead to 22-8 with 8:34 remaining in the half. FDU scored four straight on free throws from freshman
Jayda Bing and junior
Francesca Shipe. The Ducks offense would continue to roll, taking a 31-17 lead into the halftime break.
SECOND HALF
After Stevens extended their lead to 33-17 early in the third, the Devils would go on a run, scoring seven straight points capped off by Staggers free throws, cutting the lead to 33-24. Back and forth action would continue, with Stevens leading by eleven, 37-26 headed into the fourth quarter.
Sophomore
Helen Ishmael hit a bucket at the 9:09 mark on a nice pass from sophomore
Arian Coleman, to keep the Ducks lead at 11. Seconds later, Bing would knock down a jumper to bring the lead to nine. After a Stevens response basket, Ishmael would hit another bucket to bring the Stevens lead back to nine. From there, the Ducks would control the game and close out the victory.
LEAD DEVIL
Ishmael led the way for the Devils with another double-double recording 15 points and 11 rebounds.
SENIORS DAY
Staggers finished the day with 10 points and four rebounds while Roman added six points and six rebounds.
