POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - Junior Andrew McTigue placed 74th to pace a trio of Devils runners at the Ron Stonitsch Invitational hosted by Vassar College Saturday

"Today XC proved that times can improve when you take the nerves off," explained Head Coach John Cahill. "We went out today in the first mile at a calm state and from there pushed each miler harder and harder. There's this pressure to go out intensely in the first mile but if you tell yourself, run your own race, it will line in with your values as a runner, and you can achieve a better state of racing."

McTigue notched a time of 23:22.6 for his 74th place finish. He averaged a 6:16.2 time per mile, and clocked in at 5:55 after his first mile. Sophomore Billy Gray was the next Devils runner to cross the finish line, finishing 81st. The sophomore recorded a time of 24:22.6, a career-low for the sophomore. Like McTigue, Gray was under six minutes for his first mile, finishing it in 5:58.

Junior Dakota Carfello, who missed the meet last week due to injury, made his season debut for the Devils. Carfello finished 87th, turning in a time of 27:00.6. The junior notched a first-mile time of 6:21 and his time of 27:00.6 was a career-low mark.

After a week off, the Devils return to action on September 21 when they compete at the Aggies XC Open, hosted by Delaware Valley.
