MADISON, N.J. (August 30, 2019) – Junior
Amanda Croce tallied four goals as the FDU women's soccer team blanked New Jersey City University 9-0 in their home opener at Robert T. Shields Friday evening.
FDU got on the board in the 13th minute as Croce capitalized off assists by junior
Erica Martins and senior
Nicolette Roberts. The Devils would not wait long to double the lead as junior
Tatiana Nieto scored off a pass from Martins. Croce would then connect a few minutes later, heading in a corner kick by junior
Nathalia Gallo.
Junior goalie
Ashley Paulino recorded a save in the 24th minute which turned out to be the Gothic Knights lone shot on goal of the game. The Devils scored one final time in the half as sophomore
Sydney Weber found Croce to give FDU the 4-0 lead heading into the break.
FDU held a 13-2 edge in shots over the first 45 minutes and took all four corner kicks of the opening stanza.
After two missed shots to open the second half, junior
Madeline Finnegan added to the FDU lead with a goal off an excellent cross by Roberts. The Devils did not wait long to capitalize once again, as senior
Erika Pita scored off an assist from Martins.
The Devils were not finished yet as Croce executed once again in the 78th minute for her fourth score of the night. FDU finished up their red-hot scoring night with two late goals. In the 74th minute it was Pita who scored off an assist from junior
Barbara Ferreira before freshman
Jenna Conanan closed out the scoring with her first collegiate goal off of a feed from Pita.
