Baseball Topped by Ramapo in Non-Conference Action

MAHWAH, N.J. (April 23, 2019) – Freshman Tyler McCulloch and sophomore Matt Nodoro combined to go 5-for-8, but the FDU-Florham baseball team was knocked off by Ramapo College 13-3 Tuesday.

FDU falls to 11-24 while Ramapo moves to 20-10.

After a scoreless first inning, the Roadrunners notched four runs in the bottom half of the second. The big hit was a two-run home run with one out in the frame. The Devils got on the board in the next half inning, plating one run. Sophomore Joe Moskowitz lined an 0-1 double down the left field line before Nodoro traded places with him as he delivered a two-base hit down the right-field line.

Ramapo added single tallies in the third and fourth before putting the leadoff runner on base in the fifth. Freshman Thomas Consiglio walked the first batter he faced, but junior Kevin Smiegocki snared a line drive and stepped on first base for the unassisted double play. The Roadrunners struck for two additional runs in each of the sixth and seventh stanzas, taking a 10-1 lead.

Nodoro led off the eighth with a single up the middle before moving to third on a Smiegocki single. The next hitter was sophomore AJ Yurista, and he delivered a single to center to plate Nodoro. McCulloch followed suit and lined a 1-1 offering back up the middle to score Smiegocki. FDU would be unable to get any closer, as the Roadrunners tacked on the final three runs in the eighth. The Devils got a single from Hakim Hamer in the ninth but was erased on a 5-4-3 double-play to end the game.
