Petrucelli Nets 100th Career Goal as Women's Lacrosse Cruises Past Eastern

ST. DAVID'S, Pa. (April 17, 2019) – Senior Kathleen Petrucelli of the FDU-Florham women's lacrosse team recorded her 100th career goal as the Devils cruised to a 17-1 victory over Eastern University Wednesday.

FDU levels its overall record at 7-7 and 4-1 within the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom, as Eastern falls to 3-9, 2-3 in the conference.

Petrucelli and classmate Caitlyn Damon opened the scoring with goals two minutes apart, as the team netted the first 11 markers of the contest. All 11 tallies came within the first 14:10 of the game. Sophomore Mia Michaelides and junior Aliyha Elk doubled the lead with free position tallies before Damon netted two straight to make the score 6-0.

The senior Petrucelli potted her second of the afternoon with 20:52 left in the opening half on a free position attempt before she completed her hat trick at the 18:25 mark. After sophomore Kayla Brunner corralled the ensuing draw, it was Elk who deposited her second tally of the game for the 10-0 lead, forcing the hosts into a timeout.

Petrucelli hit the century mark with her goal with 16:50 remaining in the half, converting a pass from classmate Caroline Pape. The Eagles broke the run with a goal, but Damon tallied the final two of the half give FDU the 13-1 lead entering halftime.

The Devils outshot Eastern 19-5 and forced 17 Eagles turnovers over the first 30 minutes of play.

Michaelides and Elk registered the first goals of the second stanza, coming nearly two minutes apart in the opening stages. Damon would close off her day with her sixth goal of the game before senior Makenzie Staffordsmith ended the Devils scoring with 9:02 left in the contest. The Staffordsmith tally came shortly after Eastern was assessed a yellow card.
