MISENHEIMER, N.C. (March 14, 2019) - The FDU-Florham softball team fell in a doubleheader against Pfeiffer University on Wednesday afternoon.
GAME 1: Pfeiffer 12, FDU-Florham 1
The Devils struck for the first run in their opening at-bat, starting with a one-out walk to junior
Gabby Young. Young stole second and moved to third on a groundout by sophomore
Francesca Shipe. Classmate
Nicole Casale singled through the right side, plating Young for the games first tally.
The Falcons tallied three runs in the first and two in the second before Young got on base in the third with a single down the left field line. The junior couldn't advance any further as a groundout to second retired the side. The hosts closed out the scoring in the third, scoring seven times on five hits.
GAME 2: Pfeiffer 16, FDU-Florham 0
Sophomore
Kaleigh Oplinger was in the circle for the second game and retired the Falcons in order in the bottom of the first. Casale led off the second with double to center before moving over to third on a groundout by senior
Courtney Rohde. The Devils couldn't capitalize, as the next two batters were set down in order.
Pfeiffer exploded for nine runs in the second and five more in the third to take a comfortable lead. Junior
Tara Morash led off the third with a single for the Devils but was unable to move any further.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Oplinger and junior Megan Zaccario each recorded a strikeout in the second game.
- Casale recorded hits in both ends of the twinbill, and had the lone RBI over the two games.
