NEWBURGH, N.Y. (October 5, 2019) – The FDU men's cross country team competed at the Knights Invitational hosted by Mount Saint Mary College Saturday.
The Devils saw four runners compete, led by senior
Andrew McTigue. McTigue placed 55th with a time of 31:02 in the 8K event. It was his best 8K time in over two years and jumped out to a 5:58 first mile time. He kept consistent tempo through the race and had three-mile times under 6:10. Senior
Chris Duerr was the next Devils finisher as he crossed the finish line at 32:16. That time was good for 71st place and paced the team with a 5:52 first mile. The senior shaved nearly five minutes of his 8K time from two weeks ago.
Sophomore
Billy Gray finished in 81st place, notching a time of 32:50. Like Duerr and McTigue, Gray had his first-mile time under six minutes, clocking in at 5:55. Gray was almost three minutes quicker in this event than at the Aggies Open two weeks ago. Rounding out the Devils competitors was junior
Dakota Carfello, who placed 104th with a mark of 34:29. It was a personal-best time for Carfello in the 8K, who had a 6:33 first mile time.
FROM THE COURSE
"We worked on surges throughout the past two weeks, and the men's team were able to do this throughout the race," explained Head Coach
John Cahill. "At some point, Chris was leading then Billy. It really proved how a race can have such tempo."
