ST. DAVIDS, Pa. (April 11, 2018) - Senior
Reynaldo Diaz of the FDU baseball team collected his 100th career hit, but the Devils fell to Eastern 16-2 in Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom action.
The Devils are now 8-14, 2-7 in the MAC Freedom. Eastern improves in 8-14, 2-8 in conference.
After the Eagles scored in their first at bat, FDU answered in the top of the second. Junior
Kevin Smiegocki singled with two outs and moved to third on a single from freshman
Matt Nodoro. Junior
Ian Havran evened the game with a single into center, plating Smiegocki.
Eastern scored four times in the third and once in the fourth to pull in front 6-1. The Devils had bases loaded in both the second and third frames, but were unable to push a run across. FDU cut into the lead in the sixth, as Diaz reached on an error, allowing Nodoro to score from first base.
The hosts broke the game open in the sixth, scoring nine times off of relievers
Steven Riley and
Joseph DeFeo. The Eagles scratched across an additional unearned run in the eighth, taking advantage of a Devils error.
Havran collected two hits from his leadoff spot while swiping two bags. Sophomore
Arjun Alwis struck out two in his one innings of relief, while freshman
Rob McGuinness tossed a perfect seventh inning.
FDU resumes its busy schedule Friday, heading to Wilkes-Barre, Pa. for a showdown against King's at 3:30 p.m.
