MADISON, N.J. (September 5, 2017) - Senior
Missy Quinn had a goal and an assist to lead the FDU women's soccer to a thrilling 4-3 victory over Kean Tuesday.
For the third time in four days, the Devils defeated an in-state rival, moving to 3-0 on the year. Kean dropped to 1-2.
Freshman
Nathalia Gallo made two saves early in the game to keep Kean off the scoreboard, and classmate
Amanda Croce broke the 0-0 tie in the 10th minute. Sophomore
Lindsey Scarmozzino sent in a cross and Croce was there to redirect the ball in for her second tally of the year. Kean answered back in the 17th minute as Kaitlyn Pallitto tapped in a pass to knot the game at one.
The teams would then encounter bad weather, entering a lightning delay that spanned almost 90 minutes. Once the game was back on, it was Pallitto again who scored for the visitors giving them the 2-1 lead. The Devils evened the game in the 38th minute, off a corner-kick opportunity. Scarmozzino sent the ball in and found the body of freshman
Madison Rosa. The ball glanced off Rosa right to classmate
Erica Martins, who poked the ball into the net for her second of the year.
With time winding down in the half, Kean was whistled for a foul 30 yards out. After getting the ball set, Quinn boomed a free kick that found freshman
Madeline Finnegan, who headed the ball in close with a mere 1.7 seconds left on the clock. Kean held a 14-7 edge in shots, but Gallo was able to make six key first half stops.
The Cougars answered with a corner-kick tally of their own, as Pallitto completed her hat trick off a Kendall Machak service. The game seemed poised to head to overtime, but the Devils took advantage of a Cougar foul from about 36 yards out. Quinn stepped up and powered a shot just beyond the goalies reach and under the crossbar for her first tally of the year. The Devils limited Kean to two shots over the final 10:05, holding on for a 4-3 win.
Gallo made a career-best nine saves, while
Madison Rosa led the team with three shots. Finnegan put both shot attempts on goal, and has recorded a point in all three games so far.
Pallitto led Kean with the hat trick and seven shots.
