RIVERDALE, N.Y. (September 13, 2017) - The FDU women's soccer topped the College of Mount St. Vincent 2-0 Wednesday.
The Devils, at 4-1, are off to the best start in program history, while the Dolphins fell to 0-3.
The Dolphins tested freshman goalkeeper
Kassidy Germann early, but a team save and a Germann save 3:06 in kept the score at 0-0. The Devils had a couple good looks, as sophomore Nicholette Roberts fired two shots that were saved.
In the 15th minute,
Danielle Matos ripped an attempt that rang off the post. After sophomore
Lindsey Scarmozzino took a corner, the ball bounced around until senior
Kristina Ragolia knocked it home for her first of the season. The Devils ended the opening half with an 8-4 edge in shots.
The Dolphins pressed in the second half, desperately trying to find an equalizing goal. Despite taking seven shots in the period, Germann and the staunch Devils defense clamped down. With time winding down, freshman
Amanda Croce sent in a cross that found classmate
Erica Martins for the insurance goal.
Germann made five saves in her collegiate debut, while Matos fired four shots in the victory.
The Devils are home for a pair of games this weekend, welcoming Bard and Lehman to Robert T. Shields Field on Saturday and Sunday.
