MADISON, N.J. (April 23, 2017) - The FDU baseball picked up two key MAC Freedom wins over Delaware Valley Sunday.
GAME 1: FDU 11, Delaware Valley 3
Senior
Dylan DiPolvere celebrated Senior Day in style, going 3-for-3 and driving in five runs in the first two frames. His first career home-run, a grand slam, put FDU up for good in the first innings. In second, juniors
Reynaldo Diaz,
Christopher Franco and
Ben Thompson all had RBI's which put FDU up 9-0 after two.
Junior
Kenny Carrier cruised to the win, hurling six innings with six strikeouts. Delaware Valley scored once in the fourth, but the Devils answered with run-scoring outs by juniors
David Wilbur and
Joseph Bonaccorso. The Aggies tacked on runs in the sixth and seventh, but the game was already well out of reach.
Thompson, Franco and Bonaccorso all had two hits in the first game.
GAME 2: FDU 12, Delaware Valley 3
The Aggies struck first with two runs in the first inning, but FDU evened the game up with two in the second. Senior
Diego Espinosa and Bonaccorso each had RBI doubles in the frame. Espinosa worked a bases loaded walk in the third, while classmate
Josh DellaPietro had a run-scoring groundout to push the FDU edge to 4-2.
Delaware Valley cut the lead in half in the fourth, but FDU exploded for nine runs in the home half. Senior
Bryan Pieschel, Franco and Bonaccorso all had RBI doubles, while Espinosa and junior
Garrett Ruoff had RBI singles. Del Val capped the scoring with an RBI single in the fifth.
Matt Zingaro earned the win, tossing 4 2/3 innings out of the bullpen with eight strikeouts. Much like DiPolvere earlier, Espinosa had a career-day on Senior Day, going 3-for-3 with four RBI's.
