WINTER HAVEN, Fla. (March 16, 2017) –
Steven Riley pitched 3 2/3 innings of three hit relief to lead the FDU baseball team to a 13-9 win over Stockton in their Florida finale Thursday.
FDU is currently 4-3, while Stockton dropped to 5-4.
After the Ospreys scored three times in the first, the Devils responded with a five spot in the second inning.
Joseph Bonaccorso had a two-run double and
Joseph Breymeier brought two in after reaching on an error. Stockton evened the game with a trio of unearned runs in the third, but the Devils took the lead for good in the fourth.
After
Garrett Ruoff reached on a one out error,
Josh DellaPietro singled to put runners on first and second.
Reynaldo Diaz delivered an RBI double and Chris Franco drove in a run with a groundout. The following frame, Bonaccorso belted a run-scoring single and DellaPietro plated a run with a double.
Stockton scored three times in fifth to chase Devils starter
John Armstrong, but only scored one time over the final four innings. Ruoff drove home a pair of insurance runs with a two run single.
Riley entered in the fifth and allowed just three hits and one unearned run in relief, striking out two to earn the victory.
Frank Chessa entered with two outs in the eighth and retired four batters for his first career save.
FDU will be back in action on Sunday, traveling to Wilkes for a doubleheader.
