Women's Soccer Tripped Up by Wilkes, 3-1

WILKES BARRE, Pa. (October 6, 2017) - Freshman Stephanie Stojanovski scored the lone goal as the FDU women's soccer team was topped 3-1 by Wilkes in conference action Friday.

The Colonels improve to 8-1-2, 2-0-0 in the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom, as FDU fell to 7-5-0, 0-2 in conference.

Wilkes attempted the first seven shots over the first 33 minutes, but FDU freshman goalkeeper was able to make four saves to keep the score deadlocked. In the 34th minute, Stojanovski entered as a substitute just as the Devils were attempting their first corner kick of the evening. Classmate Tatiana Nieto served the ball in, and after the ball glanced off a defender, Stojanovski found the ball and beat the Wilkes goalie for her second tally of the season.

That would be the only shot opportunity of the period for FDU, and Wilkes was able to equalize in the 41st minute. Dianna Connor ripped a shot from 30 yards out the eluded the Devils keeper, sending the teams tied at one heading into halftime.

FDU had a pair of good chances early on in the second stanza, but freshman Madeline Finnegan had a pair of attempts snuffed out. In the 58th minute, the hosts took the lead, as Connor put a shot in the left corner for her second tally of the night.

Eight minutes later, Connor completed her hat trick taking a feed from Elena Denger and shooting in the right corner. Wilkes looked to stretch the lead to three late in the game, but Paulino made a stop in the 85th minute to keep it at a two-goal deficit.

Paulino made six saves, while Finnegan led the way with a pair of shots.

The Devils will look to get back in the win column with a MAC Freedom game against Delaware Valley on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
