MADISON, N.J. (January 7, 2017) – The Fairleigh Dickinson University women's basketball team rolled past Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom rival Misericordia University, 74-55, in the Ferguson Recreation Center on Saturday afternoon.
The Devils continued their nine-game winning streak, improving to 11-2 on the season as the Cougars dropped to 7-5.
Freshman
Kendrea Williams was hot all game long, notching a game-high 23 points to lead the way in the Devils' victory. Williams went 8-for-13, making two three-pointers and going 5-for-5 from the charity stripe.
FDU-Florham dominated the court with a 40 percent shooting average from behind the arc compared to Misericordia's 16.7 percent in the second half.
The Cougars slightly outplayed the Devils in the third quarter, 14-13, yet an all-around stellar effort from senior
Rachel Groom kept FDU-Florham on top. Groom finished the night going 8-for-13 with a double-double, grabbing 21 points and 13 rebounds, including 11 defensive rebounds.
Despite Cougars' Shannon Croasdale connecting for 18 points, freshman
Taiah Thornton played a pivotal role with five steals as FDU-Florham earned 23 points off turnovers. Thornton recorded 11 points and three assists.
FDU-Florham was also aided by the talents of
Alyssa McDonough who nabbed 15 points and five assists.
Up next, the Devils travel to King's College (Pa.) for a conference matchup on Wednesday, Jan. 11 at 6 p.m.
