Capobianco's Big Day Leads Devils in 17-5 Victory

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – Led by a career-high eight goals from Brianna Capobianco, the Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham women's lacrosse team toppled Delaware Valley University 17-5 at Lipinski Field on Tuesday evening.

The first-place Devils (10-6, 5-0 MAC Freedom) extended their win streak to seven with the victory as they gear up for Saturday's battle with the other conference unbeaten, Misericordia University.

Tuesday's game was never in doubt as the Devils opened the game with 15-unanswered goals. Reigning MAC Freedom Offensive Player of the Week Joelle Manganella got the ball rolling with an unassisted strike just 17 seconds into play.

Then, 37 seconds later, Capobianco netted her first of what turned out to be a career day. Three minutes later, Capobianco finished a feed from Brittni Calleo for a 3-0 Devils' lead.

By the time the halftime whistle had sounded, the Devils held a 13-0 lead. Capobianco, who sits just four goals shy of 100 for her career, amassed four of her eight tallies in the first stanza, while Manganella matched her with four goals of her own.

The Devils notched their 15th goal of the contest with 22:37 to go and put on the brakes from there, as they played possession until the finish line.

Delaware Valley's (5-8, 0-5 MAC Freedom) Taylor Teliszewski finally broke through for the Aggies with 12:41 to play in regulation before Capobianco responded with her seventh of the day.

All three Devils goalies saw action in the win as Megan Nemeth earned her 10th victory of the season by making one save in 19:55 of on-field time.

Brienna Reasoner and Cassidy Vastano each nabbed five draw controls, while Reasoner added her 33rd goal of the season in the win.

With her four-goal performance, Manganella now leads the team with 35 goals on the campaign. Capobianco upped her season total to 29 in the win and netted her eight goals on an efficient nine shots.

FDU-Florham closes regular-season action with its annual senior day this Saturday, April 30 at 3 p.m. against the Cougars. Saturday's winner will clinch the top spot in next week's MAC Freedom Tournament.
