Baseball Falls in Conference Game at Manhattanville

PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham baseball team suffered a 15-6 setback to Manhattanville College in MAC Freedom action on Friday afternoon.

The Devils (5-9-1, 1-3 MAC Freedom) were unable to continue their momentum from yesterday's come-from-behind tie with No. 4 Ramapo College but will have a chance to get back on track when they host the Valiants (9-6, 3-1 MAC Freedom) for a doubleheader tomorrow.

Senior right fielder Vinny Bonaccorso paced the Devils in the loss with a 3-for-5 effort, including one RBI. FDU-Florham center fielder Frankie Tassielli extended his hitting streak to 15 games to start the season with a 1-for-5 effort on the afternoon.

The two teams traded runs over the first three frames before the Valiants broke free and opened a seven-run lead after a three-run blast by third baseman Robbie Lynch. Lynch had himself a huge day and knocked in nine runs in the victory, while recording three hits and two runs scored.

In the top of the fifth, Lynch launched his second home run of the game, this one a grand slam off of Devils' reliever John Armstrong, which extended the Valiants' cushion to 15-4.

The Devils were able to get two runs back in the seventh and eighth when Kevin Sinclair was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Tassielli came home on a balk.

Sophomore right-hander Kenny Carrier dropped to 1-3 on the season after tossing 4.1 innings, allowing 10 runs (nine earned) and striking out five. Pat Badia improved to 2-0 for Manhattanville by scattering seven hits allowing four runs (two earned) and striking out two.

These two teams meet again tomorrow for a twinbill beginning at 12 p.m. in Madison.
