MADISON, N.J. -- The Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham women's basketball team won its fifth game in a row by topping King's College 66-55 at the Ferguson Recreation Center on Wednesday night.
Senior forward Shalette Brown has double-doubled in each of the five wins, including tonight's 17-point, 19-rebound effort. Brown currently ranks fourth in the nation with 16 such efforts on the season.
The Devils (15-5, 7-2 MAC Freedom) outscored the Lady Monarchs (11-9, 4-5 MAC Freedom) 24-13 in the decisive fourth period to come away with the win.
King's started fast with a 6-0 run and led 19-8 through one quarter of action. Sophomore forward Olivia Hoffman spurred on the Lady Monarchs with the first bucket, two assists and two rebounds over the first 10 minutes of play.
The Devils responded with an 11-0 run to begin the second quarter, highlighted by Rachel Groom's five points.
Over the first half of play the two team's posted nearly identical stat lines as the Lady Monarchs shot 11-of-30 (36.7%), while the Devils posted a 10-for-30 (33.3%) performance but King's held a slim 27-26 edge at the break.
Hoffman led all scorers at intermission with 12 points and Groom led the Devils with nine tallies.
The two teams traded hoops for most of the third quarter and after Jennifer Fabian 3-pointer gave the Lady Monarchs a 42-40 edge, Danielle Leguillou countered for FDU-Florham by draining a jumper with 10 seconds to left to pull the Devils even, heading into the fourth.
FDU-Florham's defense was front and center in the fourth period as they forced five turnovers, including a five-second violation. Tied at 44-44, Alyssa McDonough knocked down a corner trey, and then Brown followed with a steal and layup before, connecting on a mid-range jumper, which gave the home team a seven-point advantage.
With 5:44 to go the Devils' full-court pressured peaked when McDonough nabbed a steal and sent a swift no-look pass to Brown for a layup. Inside of two minutes to go, as the shot clock winded down, Leguillou buried a 3-pointer, which stretched the lead to 13 (63-50) and sealed the victory.
Groom finished with 11 points and eight rebounds on an efficient 5-for-9 shooting performance, while Leguillou and McDonough each added 15 points in the win and combined for five treys.
As a team, the Devils outrebounded the Lady Monarchs 44-34, including 16-10 on the offensive glass.
Hoffman's 14 points paced King's, while Kayla Feariheller and Sara Krupinski also tallied double-figures with 11 points and 10 points, respectively.
