Devils Ward off Mustangs in Final Non-Conference Tilt

MADISON, N.J. – The Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham women's basketball team closed out the non-conference portion of their schedule by defeating the Stevenson University Mustangs 67-46 on Monday evening at the Ferguson Recreation Center.

Four players for FDU-Florham (9-4) eclipsed double figures in scoring against the Mustangs (4-5), including a 20-point effort from junior guard Alyssa McDonough. Alongside McDonough, Shalette Brown provided a spark with 11 points and 21 rebounds, eight of which came on the offensive glass.

McDonough was featured heavily in the opening two quarters and she totaled 13 of the team's 28 points. In the closing minutes of the second quarter, the Devils went on a 10-2 run that was capped off by a McDonough midrange score at the buzzer.

By the end of the third quarter, FDU-Florham had extended its lead to a game-high 10 points following a small 7-2 run.

In the final quarter of action, the Devils' defense stepped up and the offense began to knock down shots as they began to pull away from the Mustangs. FDU-Florham went on to piece together a 23-point fourth quarter.

A big part of the late offensive brigade was freshman forward Fernanda Reyes, who scored seven of her 10 points after coming off the bench with just three minutes left to play in the contest. For the game, Reyes was a perfect 4-for-4 from the field including two made baskets from beyond the arc.

To help close out the contest, the Devils went on a 17-6 run and iced the game at the free throw line, knocking down all eight of their free throw attempts. Sophomore guard Danielle Leguillou was the most efficient from the line in the second half, burying 6-of-7 attempts from the charity stripe.

In his seventh season at the helm of the Devils, head coach Marc Mitchell understands how important it is to be playing great basketball right before MAC Freedom play kicks off.

"I believe this kind of game will help us move forward into conference play," he said.

The Devils will return to action on Wednesday, January 13 for MAC Freedom match against the Eastern University Eagles. The game is set to tip off at 6 p.m.
