MADISON, N.J. – The Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham swim teams closed the regular season on a high note by sweeping Lehman College on Friday evening at the Ferguson Recreation Center. The FDU-Florham women's team topped the Lightning 107.5-85.5, while the Devils' men's squad won 92-87.
Samantha Irace set the tone in the Devils' first race of the evening. Irace cruised to victory in the 1,000-yard freestyle, clocking in at 12:40.18 and besting Lehman's top finisher by almost three minutes. In the 500-free, Irace also dominated the competition with a time of 6:12.33.
In the 200-free, Mackenzie Doherty picked up her first victory of the season by out-swimming three Lehman competitors and touching the wall in 2:16.14. But Doherty wasn't finished, as she went on to top the competition in the 100-breaststroke by finishing in 1:19.35.
The team's success continued as Sarah LeChard won the 200-yard in 2:40.16, while Maria Fafian claimed the 100-butterfly in 1:13.25. Sarah Bennett and Alexandra Duarte each continued their stellar seasons with wins in the 100-freestyle and 100-backstroke, respectively.
Bennett, Duarte, Fafian, and Irace also claimed the 200-freestyle relay in 1:57.53, outpacing two Lehman teams by a large margin.
On the men's side, the Devils continued their success. Standout freshman Bohdan Semak won the 200-freestyle (1:55.79) and the 100-freestyle (51.70).
Semak then teamed up with Nicholas DiBenedetto, David Nadler, and Alexiy Stolyarov to win the 200-freestyle relay in 1:35.07, besting the Lehman team's by 18 seconds.
DiBenedetto went on to win the 500-freestyle in 5:33.62, while Kevin Andrews took the 100-backstroke in 1:04.29.
The Devils will look to continue the momentum as they gear up the for 2016 Middle Atlantic Conference Championships, which begin on Thursday, February 11 in York, Pa.
