Women's Lacrosse Doubles Up Vassar 12-6

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The FDU-Florham women's lacrosse team earned a 12-6 victory over Vassar College on Wednesday night at Marist College's Tenney Stadium.

Reigning Freedom Conference Offensive Player of the Year, Courtney Rendinaro (Hillsborough, N.J.) scored five goals and assisted on another in the win. Rendinaro, who now has a team-high 10 goals, was incredibly efficient and scored on each of her five shot attempts. Additionally the senior midfielder corralled four ground balls and a draw control for the Devils (2-1), who returned to action following two postponements.

Two minutes into play, FDU-Florham junior attack Brianna Capobianco (Williston Park, N.Y.) got the Devils on the board by taking advantage of a Brewers' yellow card and burying a free position shot. Less than five minutes later, Rendinaro registered her first score of the day on an unassisted strike.

The Devils opened up a 4-0 lead when Joelle Manganella (Kenvil, N.J.) and Brittni Calleo (Bayville, N.J.) netted goals just 50 seconds apart.

The Brewers broke through at the 15:41 mark when Hannah Cho snuck a shot past Devils goalkeeper Grace Warburton (Lake Hopatcong, N.J.). Warburton made nine stops in the victory, including a great save on a Vassar free position shot at the 7:04 mark.

The pace settled in as the two teams went scoreless for nearly 12 minutes before Rendinaro finished a free position shot for the final score of the half and sent the Devils into the break with a 5-1 advantage.

Storm Sideleau and Kim Mulvehill each scored in the first five minutes of the second stanza , which brought the Brewers within two at 5-3 but the Devils refused to relinquish their lead.

Sophomore midfielder Noelle Shirey (Pine Beach, N.J.) went to work and netted two unassisted goals just 25 seconds apart. Less than a minute later, Rendinaro completed her hat trick

With 13:48 to go in regulation, Manganella finished a pass from Rendinaro for her seventh goal of the season, which put the Devils in front 9-3.

The duo scored the team's last three goals of the game to secure the victory. Rendinaro's fifth and final goal of the contest came just one second before the final horn.

Sophomore Brienna Reasoner (Flemington, N.J.) was extremely active in the win, totaling eight ground balls, five caused turnovers and two draw controls, while Shirey added nine ground balls and four caused turnovers to her ledger.

Mulvehill led the Brewers with three goals on four shot attempts in defeat.

FDU-Florham showed off its shooting accuracy by netting its 12 goals on just 19 shot attempts.

The Devils will host Stevens Institute of Technology in their home opener this Friday, March 13 at 4 p.m. This game was initially scheduled for March 4 but was postponed due to snow.
