Brown's Amasses 23 Points and 23 Rebounds in 66-57 Loss

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The No. 14 FDU-Florham women's basketball team suffered its first MAC Freedom loss of the season 66-57 to King's College on Saturday afternoon at Scandlon Gymnasium.

The Devils (5-2, 1-1 MAC Freedom) were unable to keep the Monarchs (6-1, 2-0 MAC Freedom) off of the free throw line in the loss, which proved to be the difference.

Senior forward Shalette Brown had another outstanding game for the Devils with 23 points and 23 rebounds, both game-highs. Brown is averaging 17 points and 13.1 rebounds per contest this season and now has double-doubled in six of the team's seven contests.

The Devils only trailed by one at the end of the first period but the Monarchs built a solid lead by outscoring the Devils 23-13 in the second quarter and carried a 36-25 advantage into the break.

Ten Devils' personal fouls in the first half led to 11 free throws for the Monarchs. The home team converted 8-of their 11 tries, while preventing the Devils from attempting a single free throw over the first 20 minutes of play.

Brown carried the Devils offense in the first stanza with 12 of the team's 25 points on 60 percent shooting. As a team, the Devils posted a 30 percent clip, while the Monarchs knocked down 43.8 percent of their shots in the half. Tara Zdancewicz came off of the bench to lead the Monarchs with 10 points at the break.

The Devils closed the gap in the third quarter and wrapped up the frame with a 3-pointer by Danielle Leguillou and a layup by Brown, resulting in a 50-46 deficit heading to the final period.

The momentum carried over for the Devils and they scored the first seven points of the fourth quarter. Caroline Gehring knocked down a trey, and then Jhade Aird and Mariah Martinez each added a layup as the Devils moved in front 53-50. But the Monarchs responded with a 9-0 run of their own and never let up en route to the victory.

Although the Devils limited the Monarchs to just 1-of-16 from the behind the arc, the free throw disparity proved too much to overcome as the home team converted 21-of-31 from the charity stripe, while the Devils only managed 6-for-8.

Kayla Feariheller paced the Monarchs in the win with 18 points and nine rebounds on 50 percent shooting, while Jennifer Fabian chipped in with 13 points and nine boards.

Leguillou was the lone other Devil besides Brown to reach double figures and finished with 13 points and three assists on the afternoon.

The Devils will look to get back on track in their next contest when they travel down Madison Avenue to cross-street rival Drew University this Tuesday, December 8 at 6 p.m.
