ANNVILLE, Pa. – The ninth-ranked FDU-Florham women's basketball team dropped the Rinso Marquette Tournament final to host Lebanon Valley College 73-60 at Sorrentino Gymnasium on Sunday afternoon.
The Devils (4-1) lost for just the third time in the last 63 contests. With the win, the Dutchmen (3-1) improved to 2-0 all-time against the Devils.
In the loss, senior forward
Shalette Brown double-doubled for the fourth time in five games with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Brown and teammate
Alyssa McDonough were named to the All-Tournament Team on Sunday evening.
Fifth-year guard
Kiely Chaklos played all 40 minutes for the Dutchmen and scored a team-high 19 points to go along with seven rebounds and seven assists in the win. Chaklos was 7-for-8 from the free throw line as the Dutchmen attempted 28 free throws to just 11 for the Devils.
Personal fouls doomed the Devils as three of their five starters fouled out, while starting center
Rachel Groom finished with four personals.
The Devils found themselves in unfamiliar territory as they trailed at the end of a quarter for the first time this season. Behind seven points from
Lexie Lantz, the Dutchmen held a slim 17-16 edge through one period of play.
The Dutchmen continued to play fundamentally sound basketball and prevented the Devils from earning easy baskets off of turnovers. Although the two teams registered nearly identical shooting performances from the floor, the home team took advantage at the free throw line by converting 10-of-12 compared to the Devils' 1-for-6 performance. Lebanon Valley leveraged that large free throw disparity to take a 34-28 lead into the break.
Lantz wrapped up the first stanza with nine points in eight minutes, which led all scorers. Led by Lantz, the Dutchmen bench scored 16 of the team's 34 first-half points.
FDU-Florham sophomore guard
Danielle Leguillou scored eight of her 15 points in the first half, including a pair of 3-pointers. Leguillou was the team's hottest shooter on Sunday, connecting on 6-of-8 shots, including 3-for-4 from long range.
The Devils out-rebounded the Dutchmen 45-40 in the contest, including 20-15 on the offensive glass but were unable to make up the free throw disparity and an 18-11 deficit in the turnover battle.
Lantz finished with 17 points in 13 minutes of action, while junior forward
Taylor Troutman scored 10 for Lebanon Valley.
The Devils will look to return to their winning ways when they head back to Madison for their home opener on Wednesday, December 2 at 6 p.m. against MAC Freedom foe Misericordia University.
