MONTCLAIR, N.J. -- The FDU-Florham men's and women's swim teams fell to Montclair State University 89-122 and 91-117 respectively on Saturday afternoon.
The Devils returned to action on Saturday after nearly a month off. In their last outing FDU-Florham broke several records, while participating in the Ranger Invitational at Drew University. On Saturday, the Devils struggled to get past the Red Hawks, who led for most of the day.
Sophomore
Stephen O'Brien (Washington, N.J.) led the Devils men's team with victories in the 100-yard breaststroke, 200-yard breastroke, and 200-yard individual medley events. O'Brien cruised to a comfortable victory in the 200 with a time of 2:40.63, with teammate
Justin Cole (Wharton, N.J.) placing second at 2:55.27. In the 100, the sophomore narrowly edged out Montclair State's
Mike Pacheco at 1:09.93, as Pacheco came in at 1:09.99. O'Brien capped his successful day with a first-place performance in the 200 IM at 2:29.09.
Also logging first-place finishes for the Devils on the men's side were
William Raynes (Basking Ridge, N.J.) with a 6:30.36 in the 500-yard freestyle and
Connor Zero (Red Bank, N.J.) in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:07.58.
On the women's side, Alex Duarte (Bayville, N.J.) paced the group in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:51.81 and the 200-yard backstroke at 2:34.78. Freshman
Samantha Irace (Oceanport, N.J.) continued to excel in her first season with a 6:34.89 in the 500-yard freestyle, which was the top time in the event.
